Sunshine, heat, and chlorine can be damaging to skin and hair! The sun’s rays are extremely strong and contribute to the chances of developing wrinkles and dry and damaged hair. Heat and humidity can lead to more rashes, breakouts, and clogged pores, while chlorine dries out your skin (and your hair!) Follow these summer skin and hair tips and you’ll be good to glow. :)
Don’t skip on your moisturizer: Your skin may be less dry these days, but don’t skimp on that moisturizer. Instead, switch to a lighter, water-based formula for both your face and body, and swap your heavy eye cream for a lighter serum. Slather on the sunscreen: Choose products that provide broad-spectrum protection (they block both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays) with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15. Apply sunscreen liberally before you go outside; reapply every two hours and always after swimming. Bring on the balm Lips are very susceptible to skin cancer too, so be sure to wear lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 to keep lips sun-safe and supple. Switch to summer makeup: Use a liquid foundation or a lighter, mineral-based powder with a minimum SPF of 15. Skip the creamy blush and instead go for a natural-looking glow with a touch of bronzing powder. Cream blush tends to get greasy in the warm summer sun....who wants a greasy looking face?! Use waterproof mascara for streak-free swimming, and get rid of that cream/matte lipstick for a dab of tinted gloss.... guaranteed for kissable lips! Exfoliate regularly: Three S's: Sun, sweat, and sunscreen increase the amount of dead skin cells that build up on your face and body. Slough them off with an exfoliating scrub a few times each week. (A beautiful glow bonus: Exfoliating will also help your self-tanner go on more evenly and prevent streaking.) Practice smart shaving: Who wears Short shorts? This means more frequent shaving sessions, and that can irritate and/or dry out skin. Replace your razor often, shave only after you’ve been in the shower for a few minutes and use a moisturizing shaving cream or gel. Make sure all shaving cream or gel is rinsed off thoroughly, and then moisturize immediately afterward.....silky smooth legs are now ready for those cute summer dresses and shorts! Prevent rosacea: A common skin condition that can be exacerbated by heat that causes your face to swell, get red, and break out in little pimples. If you’re prone to rosacea, seek refuge in air-conditioning and keep cool by taking cold showers. Mist yourself with a spray bottle and drink plenty of cold water to quench hot skin. Condition those locks: Make sure that not only are you using a conditioner in the shower, but some sort of a leave in conditioner as well. Don't overuse oils, such as Moroccan Oil, in the hair as sometimes they can actually dry out your hair. If you absolutely have to use a hair straightener you most definitely need to use a heat treatment of some sort on your locks to prevent the ends from burning and keep your hair nourished and protected. Why not just let your hair do the "beach wave" look instead of straightening everyday?! You may not be able to actually be at the beach, but why not have those relaxing waves in your hair and sun kissed skin?! Use these simple tips for skin and hair care in the summer and you’ll have the healthiest looking skin on the beach, at the outdoor pool.....or in the office ;) Melissa :)

What is the largest organ of your body? Your Skin. Your skin is a direct reflection on your internal well-being. In order to improve and maintain your skin, it is recommended you get a facial a minimum of 4 times a year. Especially as the seasons change. By getting regular facials skin will be clear, smooth and radiant throughout the year. A facial is specialized skin care for your face and provides a deeper clean than regular face washing. A facial includes a skin analysis followed by steaming, cleansing, a facial massage, sometimes a mask and resetting the skin's Ph balance. Facials include a massage of the face. This aids in helping blood circulation, lymphatic drainage and can relax the face muscles. By relaxing the face muscles the onset of wrinkles in the face can be diminished. Skin cells are also renewed which help with puffiness and sagging of the face. Who doesn't want a bright and clean complexion with less dirt and blackheads?! You will feel completely relaxed and your skin will feel amazing following a facial. Everyone's skin is unique and your facial will be customized to your needs. Beauty is only skin deep.....so why not make your skin beautiful? Melissa ;) Want smoother, straighter hair? Keratin smoothing treatments are a great option! If you're thinking about trying it, you should know this:
NO Formadehyde in the California Smooth keratin smoothing products!!!!!! :) Melissa ;) Permanent lashes, also known as eyelash extensions, are lashes applied with a stronger adhesive. Generally, a single lash is applied to each natural lash. When applied properly, the extension lash or the glue should not touch the eyelid. The bond is designed to last until the lashes naturally fall out, usually up to 4 weeks. The extensions may fall out faster if someone uses oil-based eye makeup remover or rubs eyes regularly. Eyelash extensions are any number of enhancements designed to add length, thickness and fullness to natural eyelashes. They may be compared to hair extensions for one's eyelashes. DON'T get your extensions wet for 24 to 48 hours after application. Avoid working out, steam rooms or hot yoga. The adhesive will reactivate and may cause the lashes to stick together and look like caked-on mascara. DO resist the urge to pull. If you pick, tug, twist or excessively touch or brush your extensions, it could damage your natural lashes. DON'T let moisture-rich products get onto your lashes. Shampoo, conditioner, heavy creams or anything oil based will eventually loosen the bond. Tilt your head back when washing your hair or take a bath to avoid getting them wet. DO reshape your extensions after you shower. Gently comb your lashes to fan them out or use a blow dryer set on "cool" to fan them back in place. Hold it arms length away from your face. DON'T neglect your own lashes. Maintain the health of your natural lashes with an eyelash conditioner or growth serum. They help the hairs to stay in the follicle longer resulting in stronger support for the extensions. DO have fun. Flaunt! Flirt! The best thing about lash extensions is that they are versatile and can be styled differently at every touch up appointment. Melissa :) A hair color glaze helps seal the hair color into the hair's cuticle and also helps extend the life of your hair color. This is why your hair is so shiny and soft when you leave the salon. When your color starts to dull or fade, you can schedule a color glaze with your stylist to "refresh" your color in between your color appointments. The glaze gives your hair color a boost by depositing a small amount of clear color. It also helps to improve your hair's texture and shine. Go ahead! Book your Color Appointment and ask for a Color Glaze! Shiny, healthy hair is always in! Melissa :) Grey Hair – Believe it or not, grey hair is not only for mature women or men. Two-toned Brown and Blonde- This has always been a sexy combination and will remain, quite popular among the younger generation of women. Jet Black- Embrace your dark side with this mysterious shade. It adds a sleekness and shine to hair (when cared for properly) are is instant hit. Dip Dye- This trend is made to express a loud statement in trends! Choose from a rainbow of colors and kiss the tips of the hair to express your creative side! Strawberry Blonde - This is a red-tinted variation of the classic blonde! Ash Blonde - Ash blonde is subtly grey in hue, giving it that ashy color. Chestnut Brown - Definitely the most popular brown hair color this season. It’s a sultry color, with little maintenance required. Beige Blonde – Much less bleaching is required for this shade than other blonde colors, making it very easy to accomplish. Platinum Blonde- Its extreme blonde shade is best suited for a confident woman who’s not afraid to take risks and is able to keep up with the regular maintenance to keep this color always looking fresh and trendy. Melissa :) Not that we want to start thinking that summer is coming to an end, but we should be excited for the upcoming Fall 2012 Hair trends.

Oxidized metals in the water bind to the protein in the hair shaft and deposit their color. The metal that produces the green tint is copper, which is most commonly found in algicides, though it naturally occurs in some water. The bleach or hydrocloride that is added to a pool may be responsible for oxidizing the metal, but it's not the cause of the color.
What to do if you hair does turn green: If your hair turns green, you can remove the discoloration by using a shampoo that removes the metal. To some extent, you can prevent copper from binding to the hair by sealing the hair cuticle with a conditioner before swimming. Rinsing your hair immediately after leaving the pool will help protect it, too. Melissa :) |
